Anukramanika Parva
The Anukramanika Parva is the very first section of the Adi Parva and serves as the introduction to the entire Mahabharata. In this sub-parva, the sage Ugrasrava Sauti begins narrating the epic to a group of sages gathered in the Naimisha forest.
He offers a brief overview of the vast Mahabharata, highlighting its significance and the divine inspiration behind its composition by the sage Vyasa. The Anukramanika Parva also touches on the scope of the epic, describing it as a text that covers all aspects of life, including history, philosophy, morality, and dharma (righteousness).
It establishes the Mahabharata as a source of profound knowledge, recounting both the war and the spiritual and philosophical lessons embedded within it, including the Bhagavad Gita. This section sets the stage for the grand narrative, preparing the audience for the unfolding stories of the Kuru dynasty and the battle at Kurukshetra.
